1. Cookies &Tea  


Tomorrow, Tuesday November 9th, is another weekly Cookies & Tea!

Join us Tuesdays from 11:30 to 12:30 for a crumpet and a cuppa, and all the geography themed banter you could ever want! 

2. Clothing Orders 


Geo-swag is up and running for this year! We've got hoodies and crew necks on offer.

Order forms are due by November 30th. You can download them or pick one up from the MUGS Lounge. Return your forms with $$$$$ to

3. GIS Day 

GIS Day is upon us!! This Wednesday, November 18th is the GIC's most fabulous day of the year.

Speakers will present in BURN 426 and the evening will be held in the GIC.

1:15 - 2:30: Introduction and Keynote Speaker, Dr. Bob Ryerson on the "Economic and Societal Impacts of Geographic Information in the Geoconomy."
2:30 – 4:15: Research Symposium
3:00 – 6:00 : Poster Session
4:30 – 5:00 : Geotivities
5:00 – 6:00 : Wine and Cheese Reception & Student Poster Competition

Prizes to be won, knowledge to be had, geotivities to be nailed – come out to GIS day! 

4. Photo Contest 


Calling all photos from the McGill Geography Undergraduates! 2015-2016 will have two MUGS photo contests. This semester, the theme of the contest is Geography of Montreal. Submit a picture of your favorite area, place, food, objet, plant, person, building, or whatever stands out. We challenge you to submit pictures that relate to critical issues - your picture could capture something that relates to queer, feminist, or postcolonial geography in Montreal.

Submissions are due by email November 23rd. 

Winners will have their photo IMMORTALIZED on the lounge wall. Maybe. Probably. 

5. Python Tutorials


A reminder that every Thursday from 1:30 to 2:30, Python tutorials are held in the Lounge. Computer and Life Guru Ruth Berkow will be there to answer all your questions and guide you through any projects you have – come by! 

6. Promenade Fleuve-Montagne 


Montreal is planning a promenade redevelopment, and you're invited. Join them for a walk on their "Promenade Fleuve-Montagne" to get insight and offer input into the plans and ongoing process. The the stroll-cum-participatory process will be held in French on Monday, November 30th from 5:30 to 7:30, and departs from the Centre d'histoire de Montreal at 335 Place D'Youville. 7. On-Campus Suport 


There is a lot of stressful stuff going on, and we urge everyone to take care and seek support however is best for you. MUGS would like to remind you of some on-campus support resources:

The Peer Support Centre offers free, drop-in, confidential and non-judgmental support and referrals. Volunteers are students trained in active listening and crisis management.

For some after-hours support, McGill Students' Nightline offers confidential, anonymous, non-judgmental listening every night from 6pm to 3am.

McGill's Counselling and Mental Health Services offer appointments, crisis drop-ins, group therapies, workshops, and self-help resources.

McGill's Office of Religious and Spiritual Life (MORSL) is dedicated to spiritual wellness at McGill. They have a team of inter-faith chaplains, programming, and an office to connect with others on campus.

International Student Services is there to support international students at McGill, logistically, academically, and interpersonally.

Prof. Moser has extended a hand to geography students – swing by her office in BURN 413 to borrow a cities-themed colouring book to distress at your own pace. 
  

8. Cool Thing of the Week


This year's first cool thing was a hard-hitting exposé on the longest city name in the world. This week, we bring you an equally pithy insider look at the shortest geographical name: Å. In Scandinavian languages, Å means "river." In both Sweden and Norway, there are districts bearing this name. Apparently, the road signs get stolen all the time because of their novelty.
