Field Notes 2015-2016 is now open for submissions! There are no official guidelines – all submissions of any length will be reviewed! Preferred topics of papers pertain to areas of critical geography such as feminist geography, subaltern geography, colonial geographies, and queer geographies. Nevertheless, feel free to submit papers on environment, health, GIS, urban, and human geography!

It's curling.
 
When is GEOSPIEL occurring?
Saturday, February 13th, 2016, from 1-6 pm.
 
Where will GEOSPIEL happen?
Baie d'Urfe Curling Club, accessible (contentious) via transit on the 211 Bus from Lionel Groulx
 
What do I have to lug there?
Everything – rocks, brooms, sliders – are provided. Wear warm, layered clothing so you can cool off when the brushing gets really intense. Also, it is imperative that you bring (not wear) clean grippy running shoes.
 
Can I pay in "gratitude and hugs?"
No you cheapskate! The afternoon costs $10 for ice and food. Also bring a few bucks if you want to reminisce over the hilarious times you just had over a post-ice drink.
(yes I know curling doesn't happen on skates but it's ice-related ok).
 
How can I get in on this sweeping success?

What is the shortest path to some financial assistance for your research and a sick rep? ESRI Canada is offering a GIS Scholarship to undergraduate students. The winner is awarded $2000, a permanent ArcGIS license and several ESRI book materials. To apply for the award, you must submit the following by February 16th, 2016:

Work your BA is an annual series of events, workshops, and panels put on by CaPS and AUS. This year's will be held January 18th to 29th. Stepping into the void of post-graduation can be daunting – these events can help you learn about routes other have taken and offer ideas, info, and inspo when thinking of your own options. Women in House is a McGill Program with the mission of promoting women's representation in Parliament by giving female students an inside look at the women of women parliamentarians. The program consists of a two-day trip to Ottawa March 9th and 10th, during which participants will shadow an MP or Senator, listen to guest speakers and panel discussions, and attend social events with parliamentarians.  Applications are open until January 31st, 2016. In honour of Alan Rickman, our favourite quasi-villain, but also in the eternal pursuit of all things geography, I perused the virtual fandom world of Harry Potter and found this image: Rowling's own mental map of the Hogwarts grounds, no doubt to get it right time and time again in creating the world of witchcraft and wizardry. She gave this map to the films' production designer so he too wouldn't screw it up.
