1. RA Position Opening! 

Are you looking for experience being a research assistant and are passionate/interested/could-be-interested in Health Geography and Indigenous Health? 
If so, there is an opportunity to work with Dr. Berrang Ford on the Indigenous Health Adaptation to Climate Change Project (IHACC).

2. Tutor for GEOG 205 Needed 

If you have taken GEOG 205, and feel the urge to teach a lost Engineer what's what, while getting paid for it: Look no further.

Think about it. at $15/hour, you'd only need to teach 466 hours to afford an ArcMap license.

3. Sustainability Research Symposium

Please join us for the 7th annual Sustainability Research Symposium
at McGill on March 9th-10th, 2017. This year's theme:
 
The Theme is: Resilience
 
This student-led symposium brings together students and researchers to share ideas. Join us for keynote lectures, grad talks, a poster and networking session, and a new applied sustainability workshop for students!
 
Sustainability research is, by design and necessity, interdisciplinary.

We invite abstracts from grads and undergrads across all faculties who are carrying out research related to sustainability and resilience. Come share ideas with us!
 
Registration is free. Register by February 22nd and lunch is included!
Abstract submission open until February 22nd.

4. Summer Field Study in Barbados

Barbados Interdisciplinary Tropical Studies (BITS) provides one semester of integrated course and project work in Barbados with a focus on agriculture, food, environment and development issues. The 13-week field study semester program includes three intensive 3-credit courses and a 6-credit interdisciplinary group project. You can even have a Field Study Minor! ( A complementary course is required for the minor)
 
Dates: Summer 2017 - May 22 to August 17
Location: McGill's Bellairs Research Institute, Holetown, Barbados
Cost: $9100 Program Fee + Tuition
Funding (available for all accepted students): $3000 Mobility Award + $760 Science Lab Without Borders Award

5. Redpath Museum Cutting Edge Lecture

By Robin D. Rogers (Dept. of Chemistry, McGill). The worldwide concern of finding alternatives to non-renewable petroleum-based resources has resulted in increased attention to the recovery of biopolymers and other compounds from natural, renewable reserves including from Canada's trees, grasses, and marine animals. This presentation will consider how innovation, rather than regulation, is the gateway to a sustainable bio-based economy. In Auditorium. FREE, everyone welcome. No reservation necessary.

7. Mildly Interesting Map of the Week

As midterms are approaching quickly, we've all probably found new TV shows to binge watch (please don't tell me i'm the only one). Well, the New York Times have used TV shows as a proxy to assess the cultural divide in the U.S. (wonder where Degrassi and Trailer Park Boys would fall on a Canadian version...). Check it out for many shows by clicking on the map below!

8. Cool Thing of the Week

Another site you could spend hours on (oh boy your GPA's gonna love this if you're even a little bit of a map enthusiast). The site oldmapsonline.org does exactly what you think it would do. It shows old maps... online! Though not only that, it's very interactive in search parameters so you get to browse for old maps with efficiency. Here's a quick example with a 'Montreal' search.
